Fitness and Athletics in 2010

Each year brings with it "New Year's Resolutions" or at least some people make them. Me. Not so much. I'm not big on making resolutions, but Rob sure is. As in years past, Rob's was to get in shape and shed a few pounds. So once again we joined a gym. I made him get the couple package like before. He fussed and fussed. He said I wouldn't use it. I assured him that indeed I would and as a matter of fact I have. I started attending a spinning class taught by someone I used to teach with at another school. I go on Monday and Wednesday nights. It hasn't been easy, but I am starting to get more used to the workout spinning provides. Rob has even started going too. It is a great workout.

After a few weeks we stepped it up notch and decided to change a few of our eating habits. Together we are down a total of 27 pounds. 11 for me and 16 for him. I'm so excited and felling better everyday.

Connor isn't even finished with winter sports yet and we are already working on summer sports. He has started baseball training every Friday night for the next 10 weeks or so. Although he was a bit sore after the first session, he loved it and can't wait to go back.

Here are just a few shots I was able to capture from his first session.

He has a little getting used to the whole process yet to do. He isn't used to swinging a bat for an hour. His shoulder was a little sore last night and he wasn't as low as he should have been when doing his squats but he'll get there.

As for Keaton, he has started swimming with the Special Olympics. He practices for an hour each Sunday. He loves it!! Of course we knew he would. The bonus of course is that he gets more exercise and let me tell you he needs it. He is clocking in at a great big 108 pounds. He swims for an hour and then does crunches. He's supposed to finish practice with 50 crunches. Last week he did 30 and it was a real work out for me. We'll see how tomorrow goes.  (Maybe I'll get a few picts to share tomorrow.)

Although Connor isn't on the team, he has gotten to practice swimming as well. The pool hasn't been busy and there has been a free lane each time. Hopefully that will continue and he'll be able to continue practicing his strokes.

I didn't plan on making a big change in my family's physical activity this year. You know me I don't make big plans like that. They just happen. Hopefully we will continue to increase our activity and improve our health. Wouldn't that be great!!
