A New Book

When I went to the Southern Ky Book Fest I picked up two books by new authors. I had NO intention of doing so when I went but as I was looking around there were so many tempting titles to try. I decided on this one after meeting the author and thought I'd give it a try. I've only gotten to the end of chapter 4, but so far so good. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Sharp Lookin' Art

or should I say "art" with a Sharpie? Keaton beat us out the door this morning. Nothing new there. As soon as his clothes and shoes are on, he grabs his book bag and cuts a trail. When I finally got Connor and myself out the door this morning, this is what we found.

This is the passenger side armrest:

and the back of the driver's seat.

WHY CAN'T I FIND A SHARPIE WHEN I WANT ONE?!?!?
You never know what we'll find around here.

Spring in Kentucky

It's spring in Kentucky and with the variety of weather comes state accountability testing!!! We have completed our third day of testing and tomorrow will finish the fourth. Next week we will test for three days and another two days the following week. Testing isn't supposed to be as hard on the teachers as it is the students but it really is. It's only 7:40 pm and I'm ready to call it a night. Oh well, it's part of my job.

Keaton had his first behavior observation this afternoon. Still not sure how I feel about it all. His doctor recommended behavior therapy in addition to the medications he takes. It took a while be we found an agency and finally got the ball rolling so to speak. One of the ladies is coming to the house for an observation next week. I'm not really comfortable with strangers coming into our home and just watching us. (or at least I'm sure that's how it will feel) In the end, if some of Keaton's behaviors can be better managed, it will be worth it. I hate to say it but some days I just wish things were normal.....but you know what? They are normal, at least normal for us.

One of My Favorites

One of my favorite authors.....Nicholas Sparks was in town for the annual book festival. My friend Pam and I set out early this morning and got ourselves at the front of the line to get tickets to his 11:00 session. We meet some new friends while waiting in line.

We thoroughly enjoyed his talk. He is a FANTASTIC entertainer in addition to being a FABULOUS author. He explained how he became an author and where he gets his story ideas. There was laughter as well as some teary eyes (from the audience, myself included).

Afterward, we stood in line and had him sign our books. There were so many people that he wasn't able to personalize the signatures, just his name and there were to be no pictures with him. We were free to take as many of him as we liked.

It was a great day. I'll share with you the other books I purchased and had signed later.

Miles to Go

(I found a picture to post here but for some reason, blogger won't let me post any pictures at the moment. Guess I'll have to try again later.)

I got it this afternoon. It was a pleasant surprise!!! The boys and went straight to the library and picked it up. Miles to Go by Richard Paul Evans. I have already read more than 5 or 6 chapters tonight. It's already a good book and I haven't even finished it yet. Can't wait to get back to it.

Call your local library and request Miles to Go by Richard Paul Evans. If you haven't read The Walk, get it too. (read it first)

Easter (THIRTY-One Years Ago)

A few months ago my Granny gave me some old pictures. I left them downstairs in the computer room. Tonight, when I was using the printer, I flipped through them again and decided to share a couple of them with you in honor of Easter soon approaching. They happen to be of me on Easter 21 years ago.

This is the first time (or at least the first time in a long, long time--to be honest, I can't remember) that I have scanned an uploaded a picture not using my camera. I wasn't sure how to do it neatly. It scanned with a huge white background. I used Picasa to crop it but that didn't help the haphazard way I scanned it originally. I then used Picasa to create a collage and uploaded it to my blog. If you know of an easier way, please feel free to leave a message and let me know. Otherwise, you'll have to hang in there while I figure it all out.

Until next time,

Satisfied Customer

I am one satisfied customer when it comes to my new Sanuk yoga mat flip flops. I found them when shopping for souvenirs in Gulf Shores. I just loved the way they felt. SO, SO Comfortable!!! I didn't buy them right away. They were (or at least I thought they were) $40. That's more than I want to pay for flip flops.

I thought when we hit the outlet mall I might be able to find them cheaper. No Luck! I couldn't even find them period much less cheaper. On another night of souvenir shopping I happened to find them cheaper. YEAH!! Except, they didn't have my size in the color I wanted. HOW FRUSTRATING!!! When went on to another store and hit the jackpot. They had the color I wanted and in my size too. I almost didn't get them but am so glad I did. I have had them on everyday but one since I bought them. They are way comfy!! If you're in the market for some comfy summer flops, you should check them out. Happy hunting.

Good Things...

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait....

and that is exactly what I have done since moving in here. The house I lived in as a child had a great big lilac bush out front. It was one of my favorite things about living there. I remember how pretty the blooms would be each spring. When we moved here I happened to find a lilac bush at one of the home improvement stores. I was so excited I couldn't wait to get it planted and for it to bloom. Well, that was right at four years ago. Each spring has come and gone. Although the bush has grown well there were never any blooms. Until this year. As the buds started popping out, I was thrilled. I would finally have a beautiful lilac bush in my own yard.

Good Reading...

One thing I really wanted to do on my spring break vacation to the beach was get in some good reading. Here is a picture of some of the reading material my friends and I took with us.

One of those books was The Walk by Richard Paul Evans. My friend, Jennifer, received it as a gift for her birthday and lent it to me when I finished my first vacation book. It was GREAT!! You can check it out here. The next book in the series, Miles to Go, is already in print and available to sell. I picked it up at Barnes and Noble today with the boys. After I got home, I decided I didn't want to have the second book and not the first. So, I took it back after calling the library and getting on the waiting list. I hope it won't be too long.

Spring Break 2011

I love my children and my husband dearly, but there comes a time when you just need to get away. You know, do something for yourself. This is it. It is Spring Break 2011 and I'm in Gulf Shores with some friends. Right now all is quite. They're all sleeping. Me, I'm the morning person of the bunch but I'm not complaining. When I finish here I plan on grabbing my book and heading out to the balcony. There is nothing as peaceful to me as reading with the sound of the ocean in the background.

I promised my boys that while I was gone I would skype with them each day and update the blog so that they could check in on what we were doing. Yesterday was our first day here. We had to grab the groceries and rest up from the late night drive. We hit the beach around lunch time and stayed until early afternoon. The sun was out, the temperature was warm, the water was frigid and the wind was blowing (hard). That said, you can imagine we all got some sun. Me, I use sunscreen and take a little jabbing from the others because of it. However, over the years I have learned that without it, the rest of my stay could be very uncomfortable. As it is, I used the sunscreen and because it was the spray kind, I missed a few spots with the help of the wind and am very RED in a few places. I'll have to plan strategically today when I decide what suit to wear.

For dinner last night we headed out to Mikee's for dinner. It was fabulous. Shrimp, scallops, new potatoes and rice. YUMMY!!! Wish I had taken a picture to share. You would not believe the amount of food. Stuffed would be the best word to describe us all when we left.

On the agenda today:
  • more beach time
  • more reading and relaxing
  • some shopping at the outlet mall
  • dinner at Lambert's
  • another skype call with the family
  • more reading and relaxing
  • more reading and relaxing
